Reporter Giles Richards joins the throng at the grand old circuit.

2.30pmEngland v India live

Saqib Mahmood took three wickets for 22 runs in Wednesday’s series opener against India at Chester-le-Street, dismissing Sanju Samson, top-scorer Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Verma before rain washed out England’s reply. With Test bowlers Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue due to rejoin the side for the second match at Old Trafford, competition for bowling spots is only due to increase. Mahmood has amassed just 20 caps in the format since his debut in 2019 and missed the T20 World Cup earlier this year as he recovered from knee surgery. The Lancashire seamer will be eager to claim a regular spot in England’s T20 setup. Tim de Lisle hosts our over-by-over coverage, with Simon Burnton reporting.

Cycling

4pmTour de France live

Jonas Vingegaard is attempting to become only the ninth rider in history to clinch a Giro d’Italia and Tour de France double in the same year, but will need to dethrone the four-time Tour winner Tadej Pogacar as the race starts in Barcelona. Vingegaard claimed his first Giro victory on his debut in May, becoming the eighth man to win all three Grand Tours. The Danish rider has won all three of his 2026 outings: Paris-Nice, the Tour of Catalunya, and the Giro d’Italia, where he also snared five stage wins. Andy McGrath liveblogs stage one, with Jeremy Whittle our man on the spot for what is shaping up to be a classic duel.

4.40pmSouth Africa v England live

England launch the 25,000-mile odyssey that is their July tour with a shot at the world champions when they clash with South Africa in the Nations Championship. Facing the 2019 and 2023 World Cup winners at their spiritual home of Ellis Park is the game’s ultimate challenge, and a huge obstacle for England as they aim end their four-Test losing run. The odds are stacked against Steve Borthwick’s team, who have rested captain Maro Itoje for their entire July tour, but the Springboks are likely to show some ring rust as they make their first appearance of 2026. Daniel Gallan helms the blog, with Robert Kitson reporting.

6pm (1pm EDT) Canada v Morocco live

Canada’s World Cup adventure continues as they face Morocco, semi-finalists in 2022, in Houston with a place in the quarter-finals at stake. Their talisman, Alphonso Davies, played his first minutes of the tournament in the win over South Africa, and could feature from the start. Morocco will be favourites after eliminating the Netherlands on penalties in the last 32. Scott Murray helms the live blog and Jonathan Wilson reports.

World Cup

10pm (5pm EDT)Paraguay v France live

France have been the outstanding team so far at this World Cup and will be expected to get the better of Paraguay and reach the quarter-finals. Perhaps the only thing that can stop Les Bleus is the threat of extreme heat and possible storms in Philadelphia. After winning the trophy in 2018 and losing the 2022 final on penalties, France are hoping to become the third team in men’s World Cup history to reach three consecutive finals, after West Germany and Brazil. Their performances so far suggest Kylian Mbappé and co will take some beating. Tom Lutz is live-blogging the tie, with Paul MacInnes our match reporter.

Cycling

10amTour de France live

Andy McGrath returns for stage two as France dreams of ending its 41-year wait for a home winner at the Grande Boucle. The teenage prodigy Paul Seixas has dazzled throughout this year, and although no one expects him to actually win the Tour on debt, he is surely a champion in the making. Seixas certainly brings an X-factor to the race and took Tadej Pogacar on in the Spring Classics, finishing second to him at both Strade Bianche and Liège-Bastogne-Liège. A crash has hurt his buildup, but Seixas carries the hopes of home fans desperate for overdue French success. Still, Pogacar is only 27 and joining the list of greats with five Tour titles is far from the limit of his ambitions.

3pmBritish Grand Prix live

And so to a sun-baked Silverstone, where Mercedes look to extend their impressive start to the F1 season. The Silver Arrows have won seven of eight grands prix this season and started every race on pole position. The Italian teenager Kimi Antonell had won five in succession until Lewis Hamilton rolled back the years to claim his first Ferrari win in Spain ‌last month. That victory revived talk of Hamilton challenging for a record eighth title; the British driver is a favourite of the Silverstone cognoscenti, and they are sure to offer him as warm a reception as the weather. John Brewin has lap-by-lap coverage.

Women’s T20 World Cup final

3.30pmAustralia v England live

England face Australia at Lord’s with their previous failures against their Ashes rivals looming large. Australia are chasing a record-extending seventh World T20 crown, having been deposed as champions two years ago by New Zealand. Sophie Molineux’s side have won all six games to reach the showpiece but so have England, who banished recent semi-final misfortune against South Africa to beat the Proteas by 40 runs on Thursday. That will have bolstered the hosts’ confidence as they bid to land their first piece of silverware since their 50-over World Cup triumph nine years ago. James Wallace hosts the live blog, with Raf Nicholson and Tanya Aldred reporting.

9pm (4pm EST)Brazil v Norway live

Norway hold the rare distinction of never having lost to Brazil, with two wins and two draws from their four previous meetings, including a memorable 2-1 victory over the Seleçao in the group stage of the 1998 World Cup. They come together again in New Jersey, where Carlo Ancelotti’s vibrant Brazil will hope to return for the final on 19 July. The relentlessly rowing Norwegians are making an impact at this tournament, with Erling Haaland leading the charge. All set for a classic as Beau Dure hosts the blog, with Paul MacInnes and Leander Schaerlaeckens reporting from pitchside.
