The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have accused the author of a new royal biography of "deranged conspiracy and melodrama".

He also writes that Meghan became a "divisive agent" and was seen by the Prince of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales as a "threat".

A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan said Bower had "long crossed the line from criticism into fixation".

They said in a statement on Saturday: "This is someone who has publicly stated, 'the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life,' language that speaks for itself.

"He has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met.

"Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him."

The extracts touch on topics including Harry and Meghan's relationship with Prince William and Catherine, and their business and charitable dealings since stepping down as working royals and moving to the US in 2020, including deals with Netflix and Spotify.

Bower claims in his book that tensions between the Sussexes and William and Catherine had escalated prior to their departure from the UK.

According to the author, William and Catherine were "alarmed" by Meghan and believed she "lamented Harry's unlikely chances of one day being king, just as she regretted the possibility that she would never be the queen".

He also claims that the prince fears that his brother, the future king, "could remove all the Sussexes' titles and effectively banish him from Britain".

A section about the prince's Invictus Games focuses on media coverage of Harry and Meghan at the sporting tournament for military veterans - referring to it as "the Meghan Games".

Harry and Meghan are pictured on the cover of Bower's book Betrayal: Power, Deceit And The Fight For The Future Of The Royal Family.

He previously wrote Revenge: Meghan, Harry, And the War Between the Windsors, published in 2022.
