Minnesota Vikings 9–3 Chicago Bears
Carson Wentz passed for 143 yards, Aaron Jones Sr. rushed for 105 yards, and the visiting Minnesota Vikings (2-0) escaped with a 9-3 win over the Chicago Bears, who lost their quarterback to a hamstring injury.
In the fourth quarter, Williams’s injury cast a pall over the Soldier Field crowd on a gloomy, wet day along the lakefront. The Bears (1-1) trailed by three points but had first-and-goal from the Vikings’ six-yard line with less than eight minutes to go. Williams kept the ball and sprinted to his left with ample green space in front of him.
Suddenly, Williams stumbled and fell to his knees on a non-contact play. He rolled over a few times in pain until the Bears’ medical staff attended to him. He appeared to fight emotions as he was carted from the sideline to the locker room. The Bears said Williams suffered a hamstring injury.
“I mean you could kind of see in real time. I’m actually happy it’s nothing with the knee,” Bears coach Ben Johnson said. “That was my first inclination. But yeah, a hamstring can be pretty damaging as well. We’ll see how bad it is tomorrow and we’ll go from there. It’s quickly you’ve got to turn the page.”
Wentz completed 11 of 20 passes in his 100th career start as Minnesota (2-0) won despite failing to score a touchdown. Justin Jefferson had three catches for 55 yards.
New Orleans Saints 24–17 Baltimore Ravens
Tyler Shough scored on a fourth-down sneak with 1:28 remaining, and the New Orleans Saints (1-1) rallied to victory over the Baltimore Ravens (1-1). New Orleans had first down from the two before a penalty and a costly incomplete pass. On fourth-and-goal, the Saints decided against a short field goal, and Shough was ruled to have scored on a sneak. The play was upheld after a review. The Ravens, who didn’t have a first down on either of their previous two drives, made it to the New Orleans 37, but Lamar Jackson’s deep pass was intercepted by Julian Blackmon with 13 seconds left.
Jacksonville Jaguars 13–20 Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos snapped the Jacksonville Jaguars’ nine-game regular-season winning streak. Jaylen Waddle and Jonah Coleman led a big second-half comeback for the Broncos. Waddle had eight catches for 138 yards, and Coleman scored a three-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter. The Broncos trailed 13-3 but responded with a field goal and a touchdown pass from Bo Nix to Nate Adkins before Coleman’s tiebreaking TD. The Jaguars had built a 13-3 lead with a touchdown run and two field goals. The Broncos tightened their defense and secured the win. Both teams are 1-1 after two games.
Cincinnati Bengals 20–6 Houston Texans
Joe Burrow threw two touchdown passes to Ja’Marr Chase and the Cincinnati Bengals are off to their second straight 2-0 start after notching a road victory over the Houston Texans. Burrow completed 20 of 31 passes for 207 yards and Chase had seven receptions for 75 yards while posting his 14th career outing of two or more touchdown catches. Chase had just two catches for 12 yards in Week 1. CJ Stroud was 30-of-55 passing for 353 yards for the Texans (0-2), who lost at home for the second straight week. Dalton Schultz established career bests of 12 catches for 140 yards for Houston, who lost despite registering five sacks.
Miami Dolphins 13–35 San Francisco 49ers
Christian McCaffrey became the fourth-fastest player in the Super Bowl era with 100 career touchdowns, Brock Purdy played a near-perfect game and the San Francisco 49ers (2-0) overwhelmed the Miami Dolphins (0-2). The 49ers showed no signs of fatigue after beating the Los Angeles Rams in their opener in Australia and have started the season with back-to-back wins of at least 20 points for the first time in franchise history. They scored touchdowns on their first five drives of the game. Miami were dominated after spending the week by practicing in nearby Napa after losing their opener in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas Raiders 26–14 Los Angeles Chargers
Kirk Cousins passed for 253 yards and three touchdowns while the defense forced a key turnover with less than four minutes remaining as the Las Vegas Raiders earned a victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Tre Tucker caught five passes for 119 yards and a long first-half touchdown, while Cody White had two catches, both for touchdowns, as the Raiders (2-0) ended a five-game road losing streak against the Chargers and a seven-game road losing streak overall. Cousins was 19-of-29 passing with an interception while becoming the first Raiders quarterback with at least three TD passes in the first two games of a season since Ken Stabler in 1976. Justin Herbert was 15-of-27 passing for 192 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions as the Chargers (0-2) saw a four-game overall winning streak against the Raiders come to an end.
Seattle Seahawks 31–7 Arizona Cardinals
Drew Lock threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns to Jaxon Smith-Njigba in a stellar first start subbing for the injured Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks (2-0) continued their dominance over the Arizona Cardinals (1-1). The defending Super Bowl champions have now won 10 straight over their NFC West rival dating to 2022 and closed this one by scoring the final 24 points. Smith-Njigba finished with nine catches for 155 yards and the career-high three TDs in one of the best performances of his career.
Washington Commanders 20–37 Dallas Cowboys
Dak Prescott broke Tony Romo’s franchise record for touchdown passes with four in the Dallas Cowboys’ (1-1) victory over the Washington Commanders (0-2). Prescott’s record-breaking TD toss was a 24-yarder to receiver CeeDee Lamb in the fourth quarter, the 249th of his career. It was their second TD connection of the game after Prescott had already thrown a pair to tight end Jake Ferguson. The 33-year-old Prescott has thrown 37 TDs to Lamb, the most of any target. The only major category left for Prescott to take over first place in the history of the storied franchise will be victories.
Pittsburgh Steelers 3–20 New England Patriots
TreVeyon Henderson ran for a 39-yard touchdown in his season debut, Eli Ponder added a 19-yard fumble recovery for a score and the New England Patriots’ defense smothered Aaron Rodgers on the way to victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1). With the victory, Patriots coach Mike Vrabel avoided just the second 0-2 start of his eight-year coaching career. Romeo Doubs had a 63-yard catch in the third quarter to set up Andy Borregales’ second field goal of the game. Drake Maye finished 14 of 22 for 208 yards and an interception. Rodgers struggled to deal with the Patriots’ defensive pressure. The 42-year-old fumbled twice, including the one that led to Ponder’s score.
Green Bay Packers 20–17 New York Jets (OT)
The Green Bay Packers (1-1) overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to snap a six-game losing streak with an overtime win against the New York Jets (1-1). Trey Smack kicked a 26-yard field goal to secure the victory. Jordan Love threw two touchdown passes for the Packers, despite the team committing 14 penalties. The Jets, who also struggled with penalties, couldn’t hold their lead. Geno Smith was sacked twice in overtime, forcing the Jets to punt. Love then led a drive that set up Smack’s game-winning kick.
Philadelphia Eagles 24–20 Tennessee Titans
Jalen Hurts threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Darius Cooper with nine seconds left, and the Philadelphia Eagles (2-0) beat the Tennessee Titans (0-2). The Eagles appeared ready to dominate Tennessee on a hot and steamy Sunday. They opened the game by stringing together three straight drives of at least 11 plays. The Titans sacked Hurts three times and picked him off twice, turning those into 10 points. The second interception set up Joey Slye’s 33-yard field goal with 1:56 left, putting Tennessee up 20-17 before Hurts, who finished with 264 yards passing and two TDs, helped his team to victory.
Cleveland Browns 23–19 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Deshaun Watson earned at least a few more starts for the Cleveland Browns (1-1). Watson threw two touchdown passes, including a go-ahead 17-yard toss to Blake Whiteheart in the fourth quarter, leading the Browns to a comeback victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-2) in a game that was delayed two hours, 12 minutes because of lightning. The Buccaneers were driving and had a second-and-4 at the Cleveland 28 when the game was suspended at the two-minute warning. When the game finally resumed, heavy rain started falling again, and the Bucs could not pull off the win.
Carolina Panthers 34–3 Atlanta Falcons
Bryce Young threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Darren Waller, Carolina’s Devin Lloyd returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown and the Panthers (1-1) crushed the short-handed Atlanta Falcons (0-2). The Panthers took their fourth straight win in the NFC South rivalry. Young completed 23 of 36 passes as he improved to 5-1 against the Falcons. He set a franchise record with 448 yards passing in a 30-27 overtime win to cap last season’s sweep. With Cooper Rush at quarterback, the Falcons had more offensive woes. Rookie Jack Strand replaced Rush late in the game.
